With some 15 awards to his credit in national and international juried competitions, Zou is perhaps proudest of the Special Recognition Award he received in a national portrait competition of The Artist's Magazine. From a field of 10,000, his winn ing entry, a portrait of Charlotte Hope, was featured on the magazine's cover for the December 1989 issue:

His portrait of Abraham Lincoln was selected for the Faith and Freedom calendar. He also did outstanding works that have been permanently installed at the United States Military Academy at West Point, Emory University, Agnes Scott College and American Paper Museum.
